The Airborne Lens Company, Ltd was established to combine over 20 years of professional photography, TV broadcast and video production experience with over 9 years of industry experience in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technologies, a.k.a. "drones".   

We are based in Central Scotland, with efficient links to serve clients anywhere in the United Kingdom. We have also provided services to international clients in the Netherlands, France, Spain, Iceland, Qatar, USA, and UAE.

  • Our pilots are BNUC-S™ qualified and we hold a PFAW - permit for aerial work from the Civil Aviation Authority in the UK.

  • We can provide imagery from high up without any 'working at heights' issues or impact to your operations.

  • Our costs are a fraction of what it would cost to hire a helicopter.

  • We can fly up to 400ft and can shoot 4K video, 1080 HD, Thermal and capture high resolution stills.

  • We use the latest state-of-the-art drone technology equipped with professional cameras to produce stunning aerial videos and photographs. 

  • We work to our own Operations Manual, which conforms with UK air law and guidance and undergoes third party review and approval on an annual basis.

  • Our operational and maintenance procedures ensure the safety of the public, buildings, structures and our crew - with site surveys, pre-flight equipment checks, as well as maintaining flight logs for our aircraft, crew flying hours and maintenance procedures.

  • For inspections, no more need for scaffolding or expensive equipment hire, or potentially dangerous climbs; our drone cameras can be deployed quickly and cost effectively.

PROFILE: LIAM ANDERSTREM

Photographer and Qualified Drone Pilot

Liam studied Photography in Edinburgh in the late 1990s, and became a professional in 2000. Following a few years freelancing throughout Scotland, Liam spent the next 15 years working abroad for both large multinationals and technology start-ups as a senior executive and a specialist in camera technologies. 

In 2009, he began working alongside a US based Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) manufacturer to develop emerging commercial applications for their military technology. In 2012 he and his family moved from Dubai to Houston, Texas to be closer to the manufacturer and to take full advantage of the exciting times ahead in UAS technology. 

Missing home (and the rain!), the family returned to Scotland in 2014 and Airborne Lens was born!

PROFILE: CHRIS JAMES

Photographer and Qualified Drone Pilot

Chris is an award winning professional photographer with over 20 years experience. He started his career working for a picture agency in Aberdeen and then moved to Glasgow to take up a staff photographer position on The Herald newspaper.  After 10 years there, he joined a major picture agency where he worked for The Times, Guardian, Daily Telegraph and many European publications providing both photography and video work.  Chris has built up a diverse body of clients that takes him all over the world.  He is also a licensed drone pilot and experienced aerial camera operator.
